    Behind the Scenes with the Wheelwrights

    In 2015, the Braintree Historical Society in Massachusetts needed new wheels for an antique French cannon. Colonial Williamsburg’s wheelwrights accepted the challenge to learn a new skill practiced by a small fraternity of tradespeople. In “Tricks of Ancient Trades,” two of the Foundation’s wheelwrights traveled to England to be inducted into the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights.

    Historian, educator and author Annette Gordon-Reed, who discusses Thomas Jefferson and a legacy of slavery, won the Pulitzer Prize for her book The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family in 2009. In a “Study in Contrasts,” she talks about her continuing fascination with Jefferson.

    Meacham on Jefferson

    Historian Jon Meacham deconstructs happiness and how it was defined in the 18th century in a story  that first appeared in TIME magazine in 2013. That same year, Meacham made an appearance in Williamsburg to talk about the importance of the Colonial capital to Thomas Jefferson.
