How We Do What We Do
Colonial Williamsburg employees use traditional and nontraditional
tools to perform the horticultural operations that are demanded of them
by the 21st-century challenges of maintaining 180 acres of Historic Area
gardens and more than 2000 acres that comprise our hotel and greenbelt properties.
The exigencies of modern pest problems and the cost of modern labor have meant that the Colonial Williamsburg landscape department must work smarter, maintaining 18th-century gardens with newer methods, such as the environmentally sensitive integrated pest management program that is a hallmark of the Foundation's dedication to the environment.
