Nailrod and nails Contributor: Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello
Enslaved boys aged 10 to 16 produced up to 10,000 nails per day for use at Monticello and for sale. Nailrods and thousands of nails have been excavated near the site of nailmaking shops on the Monticello plantation.
